Many of us are fortunate enough to have or know someone who has a beach house.  The beauty behind knowing someone is that often we get use of that house.  If we own the home, we get lots of guests but that is not what I want to focus on in this blog.  Keep thinking coastal gift and blue crab sculpture.

A bottle of wine or a food basket as a “thank you” gift is a nice gesture but is quite temporary if you think about it.  Next time you want to give a coastal gift to someone, consider hand crafted art as a far more thoughtful,  permanent, and classy option.  If you really hit a home run and the recipients love your nautical gift, perhaps the next time they take a look at their vintage “Iron Fish” wall art they will think, “you know, we ought to have them back for another visit”.  Come on, let’s be honest, isn’t that the goal of giving a gift of appreciation anyways? (Smiley face here) Remember, an invite is great.  A second invite is better.  Give a gift that lasts!  Also, don’t forget that The Iron Fish sculptures can also come gift wrapped.  See this link:  GIFT WRAP for more information.  Gift wrapping options do not apply to medium or large iron mermaid sculptures.

hand crafted iron mermaid and fish sculptures make great gifts

hand crafted iron mermaid and fish sculptures make great gifts

Since I began offering my sculptures online, I have picked up on a couple trends that I wanted to share with everyone in regards to holiday shopping.  Obviously, the first trend most of you are far too familiar with.  That’s right, I am talking about procrastinating the purchase of that perfect gift for someone during the holidays.  If you have no idea what I am talking about, please feel free to stop reading now.   If you can relate and are considering purchasing an iron fish, crab, stingray or mermaid sculpture from me for someone this holiday season, please read on.

You will notice that in a couple places on my website I have placed an “FYI Urgent” in red font color text about the need to get your orders in early for Christmas and the holidays.  I want to stress this point to remind all customers and collectors that I am only one artisan/artist.  I employ one apprentice and we always start the holiday season a bit behind.  This leads me to tell you about the second trend I mentioned earlier.

September and October are dependably busy months due to increased wedding orders.  Also, for some reason, I notice that many customers and collectors get busy buying for themselves during this time of year.  I can’t explain why, but I can say that this puts us in a  position of strain(welcomed no doubt) in catering to my holiday customers time constraints. corporate sculptures and custom designs

corporate sculptures and custom designs

Over the past eight years, a number of large businesses and corporations have commissioned private Iron Fish collections of their own.  Custom colors, custom designed shapes, signatures, sizes and stamps for  marking the sculptures are a few examples of different methods involved in making the order both unique and special.

We have created customized lines of fish designs for Gorton’s Seafood, Phizer, and RBC Real Estate to name a few.  These sculptures are usually given out as employee or customer appreciation gifts.  With the Gorton’s Seafood project, we stamped the company name as well as the specific years slogan, “Don’t Hope, Decide”, on to every fish sculpture created, which were then given to a number of employees at a year-end company retreat. They also commissioned four framed and mounted fish sculptures using reclaimed pine and incorporating a plaque in the frame that they could present to a valued customers. (more…)
