Coastal Lighting

Coastal accents are a great way to decorate your beach house.  Lighting is also critical when designing your home.  Here are some ideas:

Beach House Coral Sconce’s-Perfect Coastal Decor

These feux coral sconces make for a unique coastal decor lighting option.  Hand crafted and costing only $365/pair(only ordered by phone-843-842-9448), these bright red coral sconces make for a great beach house accent.  Once they are lit at night, they become another piece of art all on their own so in a sense, it is a two for one offer.

All Iron Fish sculptures are perfectly suited for a back lit option as well.  When decorating your beach home, try to keep in mind how your wall art will accentuate your “coastal” rooms at night.  Most people visualize the coastal decor in the day time but those with an attention to detail will remember the night!!!  Of course, lighting has everything to do with accentuating your wall art so remember that when you have an electrician around.  Despite how amazing your art collection is, I assure you it looks pretty drab in the dark.

One of the true wonders of wall art..in any form ..is that it can be placed or hung on a blank wall and have the ability to stand entirely on its own, without benefit of props or furnishings. (Walk through any gallery or museum and you’ll see what I mean.) Furniture, on the other hand, cannot! Invariably, it looks incomplete without some kind of accessorizing. (Say a mermaid sculpture or an iron fish for instance. ha!)

CASE IN POINT:

If you have an exterior door opposite your dining rooms entry, try hanging an iron fish sculpture on both sides of that door for a bit of a wow factor. (both, hung facing the door and approx. a foot and a half away from the casing.)

Or, hang a medium size pair of the metal fish (stacked) on one side of the door and the smallest size fish sculpture on the other.

Whether I’m eating them…or hanging them on a wall, I positively adore fish in any form. Fortunately, Chase (and his site’s past and present ‘aquatic’ design selections ) offer an immense variety of decorating opportunities for the home, office, business or as a hand-crafted gift for someone extra important to you. (The fact that these vintage finished sculptures are hand-crafted by a Daufuskie Island artisan make it all the more special.) The fact that I can offer design tips as to how these sculptures can be integrated into your own interior decorating choices is icing on the cake! Though many of my tips are, for the most part, straight forward….I do enjoy taking a more ’tongue in cheek’ or ‘outside the box’  approach as often as I possibly can! It’s certainly more fun and adventurous, so let your hair down for a bit and give it try. You might discover a whole other side to yourself.

1.  Make a big and bold first impression on your guests by ‘stacking’ a grouping of iron fish sculptures on the wall directly across from your entry door. The individual colors of each of the fish are doubly enhanced by the vintage-finish. Thus..your statement piece…coastal decorating!!! (more…)

Renowned Charlotte Architect Lindsay Daniel Gives Iron Fish Tips

I do not use these fish sculptures for just coastal décor.  Iron Fish Art has well crafted Objects d’art that I can use in any of my traditional or contemporary architecture (home, office, or retail establishments).  The simplicity and classic lines of Chases’ coastal sculptures creates the timelessness that each piece holds and opens their application to many interior styles and uses.

Besides the typical application as wall art, singular or in groupings, I am using them as light fixtures (backlit) in hallways and other accent lighting areas.  The love of iron work on light fixtures has endured for centuries and blends well with soft and strong color palettes as well as construction textures.  The potential is endless!

Any stairway will be enhanced by the addition of one of the mermaid sculptures shining in all of her ‘coastal glory’.

On a traditional stairwell she could present on the wall at the very top of the stairs.

On a stairwell’s landing, the 7 ft mermaid will not only give some much needed attention to a seldom used space, but will absorb some of the vastness and height the area presents. (more…)

school of fish turned to coastal decor

school of fish turned to coastal decor

A fun decorating tip for those of you lucky enough to already enjoy cottage living, try introducing some subtle coastal accents to your decor with the addition of some hand crafted sculptures made by your favorite folk artisan.

(1)As a wonderful ‘tongue in cheek’ way to diffuse lighting glare, utilize random fish sculptures as wall sconces. Where? Anywhere there is a need. Sky’s the limit!  The iron fish sculptures would be fantastic in the kitchen or breakfast room.

(2) I’d love to see the mermaid sculpture ‘swimming’ gracefully up a staircase wall  or ‘diving’ down that same staircase for that matter.  This is coastal decor in it’s most classic and vintage form.
