Collectors of vintage/weathered coastal iron works can enjoy all Iron Fish, mermaid, and crab sculptures as they are finished with these relics of the past in mind. What mother nature creates out of painted metal after time and elements play their part is what The Iron Fish strives to achieve when finishing all hand crafted coastal sculptures. Let it bleed! Most people don’t give rust enough credit for adding character to metal art objects that have been long exposed to the elements. Appreciation for that beautiful rust is easily found in anything Chase Allen creates. Like wine and coastal living, these coastal gifts/nautical gifts improve with age.

cobia fishing with jason dubose
Continuing education for my craft is to get outdoors and go fishing. The other day, I got a super treat of a fishing trip. Captain Jason Dubose out of Oldfield Plantation took a few of us Daufuskie misfits 20+ miles offshore to the Betsy Ross reef for a full day of fishing. This time of year is famous for port royal Cobia fishing and that is exactly what we did. My experiences fishing are mostly inshore so when I am on a boat, my knowledge of fishing needs improvement. Here enters the pro, Jason.
Captain Dubose had us on fish all day. We brought about 10 cobia to the boat and also hooked up to an Amberjack, two large Red Fish, and a nice sized Barracuda. We hooked a monster that I fought for about 25 minutes before it got bored and broke the line. Jason’s best guess was that we had a large shark on the hook. Well, we will never know for sure.
To keep this blog short, I want to simply say that if you are visiting Hilton Head, Bluffton, Beaufort, or Daufuskie and want to go offshore fishing, I highly recommend Jason Dubose. His knowledge of the waters made the trip informative and he never showed frustration when we let the big ones go due to lack of experience. For a day of fishing, I would have to score it a solid ten on a ten point scale.
